"I have three major passions in my life. They are family, work and sports."
Over the last four decades, Paul Whalley's expertise has been solicited by industry leaders and analysts. Over the years he has been selected to participate in over two dozen Advisory Boards by leading technology manufacturers, including the following: HP, Lenovo, Dell, Aerohive, Epson, Toshiba, IBM, OKI Data, Compaq, Emerson, Ingram’s VTN and others.
Paul was selected as the first President of Synnex’s Varnex Advisory Council in 2009 and 2010 and was an active member through December 2012. Synnex, now TD Synnex, is the largest technology distributor in the world. Paul was awarded Synnex’s Prestigious President’s award in 2009 and in 2010 and their Legacy Award in 2012.
Paul was asked to return to the Varnex Council again in 2016 and is still a member. He is presently in his fourth year as a member of the Lenovo Advisory Council. Previously, Paul served two other terms on that board for several years each term. Paul has also served four terms with HP and multiple terms with other manufacturers.
In 1996, Paul was honored to be considered for nomination to the Board of Trustees for his alma mater, Westfield State University, by the president, Dr. Ronald L. Applebaum. Paul decided to decline the offer due to a potential conflict of interest since they were a customer of WCA.
Prior to WCA and MassMutual, Paul was an elementary school teacher and high school soccer coach for eight years and ran a highly successful, part-time photography business with his wife, Bonnie.
Paul's other passion is sports. He is an A licensed soccer coach. In his five years as the head coach at Chicopee High School, he led the Pacers to the State Championship in 1983, The only Division I State Championship by either of the city’s two high schools since 1973.
Paul was inducted into the Chicopee Comprehensive High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 for his achievements playing soccer and baseball.
Paul was also the head coach of Westfield State University’s (WSU) men’s soccer team for six years. He led the Owls to the NCAA New England final four and the ECAC championship final. Paul's teams were ranked in the top ten in New England in four out of his six seasons. Prior to his arrival as soccer coach, WSU had not had a winning season in the previous nine years.
Paul was elected to the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 as a soccer and baseball player and soccer coach.
In his reference letter for Paul's application for the Head Soccer Coaching Position at the University, Dr Applebaum said:
“As a participant in on-campus activities, Paul was a tireless worker. He donated considerable time and effort for the institution in its planning exercise. In all of his activities, his record was outstanding. He participated actively in meetings, always challenging himself and others to do their best. He was always striving to upgrade his own and others' knowledge and skills.
I found him to be open minded and flexible when dealing with problems. He was received by others as extremely friendly and personable. At the same time, he was very adept at persuasion, gaining support for his ideas and action plans.”
" I BELIEVE THAT COACHING SPORTS PROVIDES A GREAT ENVIRONMENT TO LEARN HOW TO RECRUIT, TRAIN, MOTIVATE AND CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE PEOPLE ENJOY GIVING THEIR BEST WHICH DIRECTLY RELATES TO BUSINESS.
THROUGH ALL OF MY EXPERIENCES, I HAVE CULTIVATED MANY RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS THAT HAVE FACILITED MY SUCCESSES IN MY PERSONAL, WORK AND ATHLETIC ENDEAVORS." - Paul Whalley
Paul and his wife, Bonnie, have been married since 1975. They have three children, Melissa, Chris and Kim and seven grandchildren.
Paul has coached his children and grandchildren in numerous sports for over forty years.
